Streaking Rangers, Lightning Meet At MSG

The New York Rangers and Tampa Bay Lightning converged on Madison Square Garden, their teams riding a wave of momentum. On Saturday, these two streaking teams clashed in a matinee, their lineups and storylines intertwined. The Rangers, with a 13-11-2 record, had won their last three games, including a convincing 6-2 road victory over the Boston Bruins on Friday. This marked their third three-game winning streak of the season, but they had yet to achieve a four-game winning streak.

Coach Mike Sullivan reflected on the team's performance, stating that while it was "not perfect by any stretch," their intentions were in the right spot. However, the Rangers faced an even hotter team in the Lightning, who boasted a season-high six-game winning streak following their 6-3 road victory over the Detroit Red Wings on Friday. The Lightning, with a 15-7-2 record, sat atop the Atlantic Division with 32 points.

They had also won five straight games earlier in the season. Sullivan remained unfazed by the circumstances of the Rangers' previous win, which came against an injury-depleted Bruins lineup missing stars David Pastrnak, Pavel Zacha, and Charlie McAvoy.
