Memphis Recognized In First CFP Rankings, Which Bodes Well For USF

All because of Tuesday night's initial rankings, in which the 13-member CFP selection committee held an American team in higher regard than any other non-Power Four league. Had it selected, say, James Madison (7-1, 5-0 Sun Belt) as its current top Group of Five team, Bulls fans might be warranted to squirm.

Not so much for Miami (6-2) which finds itself at No. 18 after two losses in its last three ACC contests. Because no ACC team made the top 12, the conference is shaping up as a one-bid league, with that bid going to the conference champ. No. 14 Virginia (8-1), No. 15 Louisville (7-1) and No. 17 Georgia Tech (8-1) all are ranked ahead of the Hurricanes.

The four highest-ranked teams determined by the selection committee will be seeded Nos. 1-4 and receive a first-round bye. Seeds 5-12 will play each other in the first round. Here's one of the sources related to this article: See here
