The Tampa Bay Lightning players have once again demonstrated their commitment to giving back to their community. In a heartwarming display of generosity, thirteen players have donated $180,000 worth of ticket packages to home games during the 2025-26 season, a record high for the franchise. This impressive contribution is part of the team's annual tradition of purchasing tickets and donating them to local nonprofits.
The Lightning Foundation, the team's charitable arm, oversees the initiative and distributes the tickets to various organizations. The foundation supports 26 key areas, including afterschool programs, the Special Olympics, mental health support, military families, first responders, and the Humane Society, among others.
According to Sarah Costello, Director of the Lightning Foundation and Community Events, the players' donations are a welcome surprise. "It's really great," she said. "It's a fun challenge for us to have that many more tickets to give out to the community." The Community Heroes program is another initiative through which the Lightning Foundation provides support to local nonprofits.
