The unrelenting government shutdown had cast a pall of uncertainty over the nation's air travel system. As the Federal Aviation Administration pressed on with its directive to reduce flights at 40 major U. S. airports, the repercussions were palpable. At Southwest Florida International Airport, a concerning trend had emerged, with 96 flight delays and nine cancellations reported on Saturday, according to FlightAware, a flight tracking service.
