620 In St. Petersburg Evolves Under New Artistic Direction

Erica Sutherlin's vision for The Studio@620 in St. Petersburg is taking shape. As the artistic director, she is implementing a three-phase plan to further establish the arts and community center as a hub for creative growth. This initiative builds upon the foundation laid by co-founder Bob Devin Jones, who retired in June 2024. A recent open house event on May 31 marked the first phase of Sutherlin's plan. The gathering showcased the center's refreshed mission statement, which maintains Jones's signature "The Answer Is Always Yes" philosophy while adding an emphasis on nurturing the creative workforce.

This new approach can be distilled into the motto "Yes, and…," suggesting a spirit of collaboration and limitless possibility. A vibrant mural on the side of the building serves as a visual representation of this welcoming atmosphere. Under Sutherlin's guidance, The Studio@620 is not only fostering the development of arts organizations but also providing opportunities for individuals to explore their creative potential.

For instance, the production "Cadillac Crew" features an audio engineer new to theatrical sound design and a stage manager taking on a leadership role. These initiatives demonstrate Sutherlin's commitment to empowering artists and promoting artistic innovation.
